Good morning fellow Millennials and thank you for giving us your attention. To higher education or to no higher education, that was the question previous generations carried on their backs. Today, due to the excessive competition between the 6 billion living humans, the question has changed.

So how can you plan your education choices post your bachelor’s? Should you get work experience or should you go ahead right away with a Business Msc? Or maybe you should put all these plans off for an MBA or an EMBA in the future?

Well I decided to create a simplified explanation for each that helps decipher the offerings:

  • Business Msc: (Age Range 21 to 26 / experience level 0 up to 3 years) The Business Msc Is a very helpful degree that is to be taken by those looking to find a job after finishing their master’s or those who would like to enter the business realm coming from a different major. This degree also helps if you are entering a foreign market such as the European union and is the easiest pathway into a Phd. When picking an Msc, check what the major adds over what you already had from your bachelor’s and how strong its alumni network / career center is. Moreover, the Business Msc is a great way to enhance your hard and soft skills while getting mentored from professors in various fields.
  • MBA (Age Range 25 to 34): An MBA is a very prestigious degree to have, but it is also a very expensive choice. Usually, students are not allowed into an MBA before having at least 3 to 5 years of experience. Please note that if a school does allow you without any experience that this should be a red flag to the rankings of the university. So, who should be taking an MBA? First of all, to all those who have family businesses this is the way to go. Taking an MBA allows for live case studies and group sessions that will assist in blossoming your mind and to absorb the best techniques for transforming the business. The second category of MBA seekers are consultants. The reason behind that is the tedious nature of modern consultants and that most people in consulting are engineers. Therefore, to sustain their development in the business realm, an MBA is in need (please note that consulting companies / agencies usually pay for this). The final category is changing fields post significant years of experience, the MBA is the best assistant for this endeavor (for example moving from marketing to investment banking).
  • EMBA (Executive level): The EMBA is a degree you would want to add to your belt if you are at the executive or director level and looking to get connected to a large network of hard working humans. I must add that if you are at the director level, you have two choices an MBA or an EMBA. The MBA is more technical and much more hardcore in terms of studying and cannot be done part-time. On the other hand, the EMBA is the alumni connecter and is usually more focused on strategic business decisions on the executive level. It’s part-time / online nature allows for flexibility and makes it easier to accompany with work.

Beyond this article, I know that there are many universities to pick from. So which one should you choose? And what are the markers you should be looking for? Check my next article for more details on how to pick the right school post picking the major!
